IMAGO (1).png
CREATIVITY. TRANSFORMATION. COMMUNITY.

IMAGO is a public art initiative designed to celebrate creativity, connection, and transformation in Old Town Greenwood.

Inspired by the concept of transformation, IMAGO represents the final stage of development—a fully realized and visible expression of growth. Like a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis, the project reflects the evolution of individuals, ideas, and communities.

Throughout the Arts in Old Town summer series, IMAGO will take shape through a combination of professionally created artwork and community participation, resulting in a dynamic public art experience that reflects the spirit of Old Town Greenwood.

A COMMUNITY-WIDE CREATIVE EXPERIENCE

IMAGO is designed to engage artists, residents, visitors, and community organizations in the creative process.

At each Arts in Old Town event, attendees will have opportunities to contribute to select butterfly sculptures and interactive art experiences. These community-created elements will evolve throughout the summer, allowing participants to leave their mark on a collaborative work of art.

Together, these contributions will create a visual representation of the creativity and connection that make Old Town Greenwood unique.

CALLING PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS

As part of IMAGO, Old Town Greenwood is seeking artists to design and paint butterfly sculptures that will become featured pieces within the installation.

Selected artists will receive a butterfly sculpture panel (or panels) to transform into an original work of art.

Designs may draw inspiration from themes such as transformation, nature, community, history, culture, and the character of Old Town Greenwood.

The completed sculptures will be displayed as part of IMAGO, creating a collection of unique artistic expressions throughout the district.

Old Town Greenwood, Inc. is proud to partner with Amy Barile, owner and artist of Teal Canary Art Studio, as the Lead Artist and creator IMAGO: A Living Art Experience.

In this role, Amy serves as the project's artistic director and lead creative partner, shaping the vision and execution of IMAGO from concept to completion.

She is leading project management for the initiative, overseeing the community engagement components, and guiding the creation of the community-painted butterfly panels that will evolve throughout the Arts in Old Town series. In addition, Amy will contribute her own professional artwork as part of the final installation.

Amy earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Indiana State University in 1997 and has been a practicing artist for more than 30 years. Her work has been recognized throughout the community, including being selected as a winning mural design in the Johnson County Community Foundation's Color the County initiative.

Through Teal Canary Art Studio, Amy provides artistic and creative services, offers classes and workshops, and creates opportunities for artists and makers to share their talents with the community. Her passion for art extends beyond the canvas, combining creativity with a deep commitment to community engagement, education, and connection.

Through her leadership, artistic expertise, and commitment to community participation, Amy is helping transform IMAGO into a collaborative public art experience that celebrates creativity, connection, and the spirit of Old Town Greenwood.
